Increasing Your Online Visibility In 2009
With 2008 winding down to a close and a new year right around the corner, it’s time to make sure that you have your online goals set up for 2009.
Creating a full force web presence involves a great deal of saturation across a variety of social platforms. There is definitely a certain level of commitment involved and you want to be sure that you are including social methods to get optimal results.
A solid web presence and professional online visibility takes quite a bit of nurturing to develop a legitimate brand online. It also requires a degree of a commitment to freshness, where your website, blog and news should be updated and shared regularly to keep your readers informed about what’s going on with your company.
For example, more and more businesses (both small & large) are now utilizing Twitter for business and instant communication to / from their connections. But as many social gurus insist, when utilizing social networking it’s important to know that it’s not all about you and your brand – in other words, it’s not a one-way conversation as with traditional advertising.
When you “go social”, others now have the ability to contact you directly via these networks allowing faster direct communication and resolution (if needed). With proper utilization of these tools, the result can amount to super fast Customer Service from a business standpoint that seemed to have dissipated over the years with the advent of voice mail and “Touch 1 for English” phone menus.
Of course, there needs to be a dedicated human being available to monitor your web presence, whether it’s just to say “Thank You”, share useful information or to provide an answer to a question or solution to a problem. You might think of it as the traditional Front Desk Receptionist who welcomes everyone and directs inquiries combined with your Customer Service, Public Relations, Advertising & Marketing, all rolled up into one. It’s not something you should create and then just walk away, so if you’re going to take the step, please don’t take it lightly. Make sure you have the resources available to maintain proper web presence and manage your professional online visibility.
As we go into the new year, does your company include the aspects of this web presence essentials list?
- Website w/Blog Integration (can include news, events, articles & updates)
- Social Networking (LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, etc.)
- Social Bookmarking (Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, etc.)
- Social Media (Video, Photos, Audio)
If your presence doesn’t include these aspects, you should definitely consider incorporating them. Social web integration is certainly part of the wave of the future and if you haven’t caught up with the wave yet, it’s about time to start surfing.
