How Effective Are Facebook Ads?
At Virtually Ready, we’re reaching out to our connections to find some questions that may be looming out there about the social web and how to best manage your web presence. As a result, we received the following inquiry from one of our Fans on the Virtually Ready Fan Page on Facebook and wanted to share it with you.
“I think the thing that I have been wondering the most is how effective are the ads on here (Facebook)? I have been going back and forth on doing one for both the business and the podcasts, but I am wondering if they actually draw potential customers in or if they are simply click through counters. For the business, Myspace is still the best tool for me because of the heavy music influence on it, but I would like to have a way to draw more listeners to the podcasts using Facebook.” - Patrick
Advertising on Facebook is relatively painless and simple to implement. You create your ad based on their criteria using your text and/or image. Ads can be placed to promote Fan Pages, Websites or Events. Each Ad can be customized to utilize the pay per click (CPC) or impression (CPM) methods, so if you are on a limited budget, you can start “small” and control the amount you spend each day – the very minimum is $1 per day. There is a suggested bid provided when you’re going through the set-up process, and bidding at least the minimum suggested bid is advised for best results. If you’re still concerned about the effectiveness of your ad and investment, why not bounce your ad ideas off of a friend or two and see what they think before you implement your campaign? Perhaps they can help steer you in the right direction toward successful results.
Facebook allows for detailed targeted marketing directly to your specific audience demographics which allows your ad to be seen by those who are most likely to be interested in your product or service. They have fine-tuned the target market options down to local area and even targeting users on their birthday. One of the coolest features of Facebook Ads is the built-in Social Interaction capability, allowing users to see when a friend is a fan of your page, and connecting a related Page, Group, Event and/or Application. Think about using Facebook Ads as a means to “Extend Your Reach” and be seen by those who may not find you otherwise.
Once your ad is approved, up & running, you can take advantage of Facebook’s Ad Reporting & Monitoring feature to measure its effectiveness. As of this article, Facebook is testing a newer version of the Ads Manager to improve the campaign management software for monitoring your ad campaigns and see how well each ad is paying off for you. If you’re ad is not converting, consider changing your ad’s message and strategy. As with any advertising effort, the overall effectiveness of your ad could be determined by the message and/or level of interest in your product or service interest. Make sure your message is relevant, interesting and provides your target market with something they will want or need.
