The organizers of Karaoke for the Cure have announced the date for the second annual Karaoke for the Cure as March 15, 2008. This event will allow local music enthusiasts to lend their voices to the fight against cancer. Karaoke for the Cure is a fundraiser to benefit cancer research and cancer related service organizations. The proceeds from the first event went to the American Cancer Society. This year’s recipient of the proceeds is Lyrics for Life, the brainchild of Sister Hazel front-man, Ken Block and an active participant in finding a cure. What started as a tribute to his younger brother Jeffrey, who ultimately lost his four-year battle with Cancer, has become an industry-wide commitment to fight Cancer.

The event will feature thirty (30) contestants competing for more than $8,300 in cash and prizes. The $35 entry fee for this open karaoke contest, to be held at 9 am at the City of Alachua Recreation Center – gymnasium.

The deadline to enter the contest is February 15th, 2008. Karaoke for the Cure chief organizer Randy Highsmith has put together a selection of prize packages sure to attract the next American Idol wannabe.
Prizes include: 1st Place Prize - $600.00 Cash, three (3) $1,000.00 recording certificates, a Sound Choice Club membership, Karaoke CDs from Sound Choice worth 500.00. Total prize value $4,175.00. 2nd Place Prize - $250.00 Cash, two (2) $1,000 recording certificates, and a Sound Choice Club membership and karaoke CDs from Chartbuster Karaoke worth $300.00. Total prize value $2,625.00 and 3rd Place Prize - $200.00 Cash, one (1) $1,000 recording certificate, and a Sound Choice Club membership and CDs from Sound Choice worth 275.00. Total prize value $1,550.00.”
